The newly developed BlueDIRECT V8 engine in the new-generation CL model series delivers effortless superiority in every driving situation.
Engine capacity, fuel consumption and the associated emission levels have been reduced by 22% compared with the predecessor model. At the same time engine output has increased. The new-generation BlueDIRECT V8 engines boast a range of technology highlights, such as petrol direct injection, two compact turbochargers for faster engine response, and an intercooler for optimised thermodynamic efficiency.
The new-generation CL 500 BlueEFFICIENCY with BlueDIRECT engine develops an output of 320 kW and a maximum torque rating of 700 Nm. Its top speed is limited to 250 km/h. The integrated ECO start/stop function also reduces fuel consumption when waiting at traffic lights or in a traffic jam. The function recognises when the engine is not needed and automatically switches it off.
In the CL 63 AMG the new AMG 5.5 litre V8 biturbo engine achieves a maximum output of 400 kW and a maximum torque rating of 800 Nm. This is possible thanks to a unique combination of innovative high-tech systems, including direct petrol injection, twin turbochargers, kinetic energy recuperation when braking and coasting, and the Controlled Efficiency drive programme with stop/start function. In conjunction with the AMG Performance package, the performance figures increase to 420 kW and 900 Nm. A glance at the torque curves will reveal that no other engine in this performance class achieves the figures delivered by the new AMG biturbo.
(CL 500 BlueEFFICIENCY: fuel consumption combined: 9.5–9.9 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined: 224–232 g/km; CL 500 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY: fuel consumption combined: 9.9–10.1 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined: 237–242 g/km; CL 63 AMG: fuel consumption combined: 10.5 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined: 244 g/km)[1]
Cutting-edge engine technology empowers the CL 600 to rapidly develop its strength. Our top-of-range power unit, the V12 biturbo has a maximum power output of 380 kW and maximum torque rating of 830 Nm. It also displays outstanding response characteristics: the V12 biturbo develops its maximum torque rating from 1800 revolutions per minute and maintains it up to 3500 revolutions per minute. The CL 600 has two turbochargers and intercooling to thank for such excellent values.
To save weight, the cylinder heads are made from die-cast magnesium. 3-valve technology improves airflow and, thanks to dual ignition, further optimises combustion.
It is hard to believe, but the massive power of the CL 600 has been further increased - the CL 65 AMG is here. The sporty top-of-the-line model awaits you with a 6.0-litre V12 AMG biturbo powerplant which produces 463 kW and a maximum torque of 1000 Nm.
(CL 600: fuel consumption combined: 13.8–14.0 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined: 322-328 g/km; CL 65 AMG: fuel consumption combined: 14.3 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined: 334 g/km)[1]
