The new 4-cylinder E 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY in-line engine is more powerful, quieter and has lower consumption than comparable earlier models. The E 220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY has a maximum torque of 400 Nm, which is available even at lower engine speeds between 1400 and 2800 rpm., with an output of 125 kW. If required the engine of the E 250 BlueEFFICIENCY can generate an output of 150 kW, and maximum torque of 500 Nm. This is due to the use of the fourth generation common-rail technology with an injection pressure increased to 2000 bar in both engines. Highly precise piezo injectors make it possible to very quickly and finely dose the quantity of fuel injected. In addition there are two Lanchester balancer shafts which contribute significantly to the smooth running characteristics of the new engines.
