CATS Motors, Inc., Philippine general distributor of Mercedes-Benz, introduces the first luxury hybrid car in the Philippines: the new Mercedes-Benz S 400 Hybrid – a vehicle that runs on both an electric motor and on gasoline. The S 400 Hybrid is the first passenger car model with hybrid drive to be introduced by Mercedes-Benz. As the inventor of the automobile, Mercedes-Benz prides itself with the greatest possible comfort and trailblazing innovations. The first European manufacturer to offer a hybrid passenger car proves that a flagship premium production vehicle can also be environment-friendly with the S 400 Hybrid. According to Andrew Ridsdale, Mercedes-Benz Hybrid Cars Specialist, “this vehicle is not only the first German series-produced hybrid but also — and more importantly — the world’s first hybrid model equipped with innovative lithium-ion technology.”
The S 400 Hybrid is the first series production hybrid with state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery specifically for automotive use. This is another pioneering step by Mercedes-Benz towards the electrification of the automobile, with the S-Class once again playing the role of the technological trendsetter. The lithium-ion battery is lighter and more compact as opposed to the nickel-metal hydride battery used by other hybrid cars. Like other hybrid vehicles, an electric motor comes standard. The S 400 Hybrid’s electric motor acts as a starter and a generator, which saves fuel and makes driving even more pleasurable. Outstanding performance and environmentally compatible drive systems definitely go hand in hand with the S 400 Hybrid’s fuel-consumption of 7.9 liters per 100 kilometers and the incredibly low CO2 emission of 186 grams per kilometer.
